About Us

Our Why

It would be impossible to see the way street dogs in Romania live and not feel compelled to do more. The amount of mistreated, starving and unwanted dogs is overwhelming, but it is why we so passionately want to be their voice and to give them hope of a brighter future.

We are so lucky that in the UK, dogs are seen as family members. But in Romania, this sadly isn't the case. We believe that the dogs in Romania who are suitable to be a pet, should have that chance. A chance to feel the love of being in a family, to adventure, to learn, to curl up in front of a cosy fire and to know they will always be safe.

And for those not suited to life as a pet? We want to ensure they never know the feeling of an untreated injury or an empty stomach. That they can live the remainder of their lives safe from cruelty and hunger.

We love each and every dog that comes into our care like our own and seeing them go home is a feeling that is hard to describe.

Our Core Values

Reduce the Number of Street Dogs

We understand that in order to make a long-lasting change to the number of street dogs in Romania, we have to do more than just find homes for the dogs in our care. This is why our joint spay and neuter campaign with Do Good Romania is paramount to the work we do as a charity. We have to actively reduce the number of fertile street cats and dogs, and we do this through spaying and neutering any and all strays brought to our vet partner; and by working with the citizens of Romania to educate them on the benefits of desexing their pets. Responsible Rehoming

We are really proud of our rigorous rehoming assessment process. We implement a three-step process to ensure that we can match successful applicants to their perfect furry friend.

All of our dogs undergo a thorough assessment at the shelter and our rehome team receive video footage, along with verbal feedback across a range of areas - from how a dog interacts with other dogs and humans, to how they respond to a lead and harness. This assessment information is collated and used to support the matching process.

Build a Community

Communication with our community and adopters is incredibly important to us at Lucky’s.

Our social media team work hard to ensure that our community are updated daily on the latest news from the Do Good Shelter and more specifically, the Lucky’s dogs. Through our social media platforms, we have built an amazing community of wonderful people who come together to show their support for us and our dogs time and time again. We are so grateful for every single one of them.

Ensuring our adopters and fosterers feel supported is essential and for this reason, not only do each of our adopters have their own personal rep - who they can reach out to at any time during and after the adoption process - but we also have a private Facebook group, which adopters and fosterers are invited to join. This group provides a space to share updates, support and positivity with other Lucky’s adopters who are going through the same beautiful experience.

We also host annual group walks, here in the UK, where anyone who has adopted a Lucky’s dog is welcome to join. These special, wholesome days provide opportunities to meet like-minded people and dog-pawrent friends for life!
