COULD YOU BE MAPLE’S MATCH?

Maple’s mum Cary was found at the dump pregnant and taken back to the shelter. She gave birth at the shelter, hiding her babies under the pen.

When Maple and her siblings were moved into a pen, Cary, shy and fearful of humans,  wouldn’t go in with them out of fear initially. Summoning her courage though she managed to break into the play area to get to their pen, coming in running despite her fear and checking on each of her pups individually after only 24 hours apart. Safe at the shelter and with such a good mama looking after them, they have grown into playful, curious pups.

Maple is a cheeky one to say the least, and it’s hard to find something she doesn’t love including food, cardboard (ripping it up), humans, cuddles, dogs and more!

Confident and friendly, she was happy to approach our volunteers with and without food, and didn’t run from being picked up, seeking out affection when she wasn’t busy playing! She was playful with both humans and other dogs, enjoying different areas of the shelter running up and down, tearing up the grass for treats.

As like most of her siblings she was very food motivated, always seeking ways to get more treats after snaffling them down! Maple is usually somewhere in the middle of whatever is going on, she isn’t always the first to head out but is definitely never the last.

She took well to the harness and lead, taking her tentative first steps towards the volunteers and was encouraged by the treat bag. Her second walk she couldn’t care less about the harness and lead, and she was straight out of the pen sniffing and exploring the grassy area.

When offered puppy toys she enjoyed playing with them, and was first to investigate and start ripping up a cardboard enrichment activity. She's not going to be a big girl in size but the attitude will make up for it. This girl definitely grew in attitude and confidence as the days went by and we can’t wait to see her continue to thrive when she gets a home of her own.
