COULD YOU BE ROCKY’S MATCH?

Rocky arrived in the U.K. back in July 2020 as a 4 month old pup.

Rocky spent his first 3.5 years in a home here in the UK but sadly back in December 2023, Rocky returned to our care and is now living in a kennel in Rotherham where our dedicated team of volunteers are working with him closely.

Why was Rocky handed back into our care?

Although Rocky develops relationships with both men and women easily, he sometimes struggled with some men coming into the home environment. Since being back with us, Rocky has met a wide range of men and women and has taken to them instantly, without any reactivity. With the right approach/training, we know he can truly shine in a home environment.

Rocky did share his previous home with another dog but Rocky’s more laid back characteristics it’s possible the other high energy resident dog wasn’t a good match and was overwhelming for Rocky.

Our volunteers have worked hard with Rocky to overcome his reactivity. He now loves his walks and happily trots along at your pace while in busy areas. A little guidance and consistent training is key to this boys success.

One of Rocky’s favourite things is fuss! This boy LOVES a cuddle and will sit around for hours while you rub his tummy. He equally loves a good brush and mini pamper session.

Rocky is a bright little button and loves learning new commands (anything for a tasty snack!).

We are currently working to tackle Rocky’s recurring ear infection so that we can get to the root cause of the problem and prevent future flare ups. This process has involved muzzle training Rocky (which he loves as it means he gets lots of cheese) so that he’s 100% comfortable wearing it ready for any physical examinations. He has become quite the pro and will now offer to stick his nose in the muzzle without any luring. We are also working to desensitise him to having his ears handled. His new home will have to continue this work to ensure his vet trips are as successful as possible.

Rocky did live with children but we would prefer a home without them to set him up for ultimate success. He waits patiently for his meals and is very polite when playing with toys, he will drop and give you the toy back for you to play with him again- we haven’t seen any displays of resource guarding whilst at the kennels.
